What will be next step for Microsoft after buying Yahoo?

It's very interesting to see now Microsoft is planning to buy Yahoo. According to the news "US software giant Microsoft, producer of the Windows computer operating system, said Friday it plans to buy internet firm Yahoo! "

Anyhow, let's say that Microsoft owns Yahoo, the question is "What will be next step for Microsoft after buying Yahoo? " Personally, i just wonder that whether Microsoft can takeover e-advertisement and search engine with the power of Yahoo.

Of course, there is strong possible way as Yahoo is pioneer in this field. But on the other hand, search result of Google can provide more satisfaction for all users and believe that no one can influence Google on this issue.

Combination of Microsoft and Yahoo might be a great chance in this industry but if we compare to Google's internet advertising and search engine business, they will surely need more time.

Google's sky gets podcasting, maps with dragons

Google unveiled the second iteration of Google Sky for Google Earth at the Astronomical Society's annual conference in Austin, Texas. Among the more notable additions is podcasting that's been integrated into the Earth and Sky layer. These short 90-second podcasts will tell you anything that's coming up this week (or that's historically taken place), and you can listen to them right from the app via a small Flash player.

Google's sky gets maps with dragonsIn addition to the podcasts, Google's now including a smattering of map variants including a really neat Rumsey one from the 17th century that's a healthy reminder of how far celestial cartography's come. It comes from the same David Rumsey collection found in Google Earth, and when overlaid on current constellation maps, it's fascinating to view the similarities, despite the depiction of constellations as giants and creatures from geese and dragons, all the way to giant crabs.

Google's Knol might be bigger than Wikipedia

According Google official blog source, the news comes out that Google is testing for Knol. Well, i don't even have an idea what's Knol really means.

But i know Wiki is one of the biggest online information source and now how Google's Knol will influence on Wiki.

The source report that "Where it differs from a wiki is its focus on the author. All knols will highlight who wrote them." and continue to say that "That small difference becomes dramatic when you put Knol alongside Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a collaborative system. There is no author listed on a wiki page because a page may have many authors (if you want to, you can divine who said what on the history pages).

Since Knol pages will be authored, users won't, presumably, be able to dive in and edit another page. They'll be able to submit edits to the author for approval, though. So much for open collaboration. But as a platform for authors who might want to make some money from their work, it's a better bet (Knol will allow authors to monetize their pages as they see fit)."

Google Maps has added terrain view

Google terrain view

It's called terrain view, and as the name suggests, it lets you get a detailed look at natural geographical features, as well as man made ones, like buildings and landmarks. Unlike Google Earth, you can't zoom around and change eye level to see how high something is, but Google has provided some degree of rendering on the surface of the earth to give it a 3D look and feel.

The maps team has been busy lately. Besides the latest terrain and MyMaps updates, the service launched user-generated markers last week, a partnership with Gilbarco Veeder-Root to put Google Maps in gas pumps, and added public transportation pricing to directions.
