Internet users grown from 37% in 2005 to 44 % in Spain

Based on the BBVA Foundation presents the results of its “Second Study on the Internet in Spain”, it says that "Internet users grown from 37% in 2005 to 44 % in 2008 " The information in this study was obtained by surveying a representative sample of the Spanish population aged 14 and over, with a sample size of 6,013. The survey's design and analysis were the work of the Social Studies Unit of the BBVA Foundation.

The sociodemographic profile of Internet users differs clearly from the population average: they are predominantly male (53%), young (59% aged under 36), more educated (75% with upper secondary or higher education studies) and of middle (47%) to upper middle (34%) socioeconomic status. Non users, in contrast, are more typically female (54%), aged 51 or over (59%), educated to lower secondary level only (78%), and of lower middle or low socioeconomic status (49%).

MAP OF INTERNET USE

Spanish users are particularly assiduous: over half (51%) connect to the Internet every day and over 90% do so at least once a week. Connection time varies widely, with 37% reporting 6 hours a week or less, 17% between 7 and 10 hours and 30% more than 10 hours. The average Internet connection time among the total user base was 10 and a half hours per week.

Leave Google and Work at FaceBook!

It's interesting cNet blogger post about how google is facing a competitor in town which is FaceBook.
With a blog title of " Facebook nabbing Google employees...Will this make Facebook's UI better?"

Mention and quoted from one of Googler's manager who move to FaceBook. Blog says that" Facebook is apparently pilfering Google employees at a torrid pace. Why? Or, rather, how? Because Google is now considered staid and middle aged, while Facebook offers cool new opportunities."

Continued "...Ex-Googler's inside Facebook are saying that the problem goes further than a few high profile exits caused by vesting stock. Facebook just seems a hell of a lot "sexier" than Google (see Rosenstein's exit email). A steady stream of Google employees are making the switch to Facebook, and competition for top college grads is fierce as well."

Microsoft will compete with Flickr and SmugMug

What will be next generation of Microsoft as it's planning to recruit a program manager to lead the project which will compete with Flickr and SmugMug and other photos, videos sharing.

In my opinion, it will be a question to ask whether Microsoft can beat over to Flickr which is most popular among the people and handle the biggest free online photo sharing market.

Review said ""This feature team is building a next-generation photo and video-sharing service that will compete with Flickr, SmugMug, and other photo Web solutions today," according to the posting. It's clear who the competition is"

And continued " but it really needs to focus on making sure that the service plays nicely with a variety of download and upload methods. This will be a welcome replacement to Microsoft's current photo-sharing solution in Windows Live Spaces "

Apple's iPhone heading across Europe Countries!

Opps! It's great that iPhone will be in Asia Very Soon. Recently, Apple's Steve Jobs introduces the iPhone to the British in September and said "For months, many had expected Apple to wade into the European mobile-phone market with a 3G iPhone, but virtually the same model that's available in the States will be presented to British and German users of O2 and T-Mobile's networks, respectively."

"The 8GB iPhone is going to cost 269 pounds in the U.K.($563.87 as of this writing) and 399 euros ($583.84), including VAT in both countries." As from the source.

Apple's Steve Jobs introduces the iPhone to the British in September He continued "It will be very interesting to see how the iPhone is received in Europe. Sophisticated smartphones and fast 3G networks are the norm in many places, not a novelty. Still, the combination of the touch-screen interface and the iPod capabilities should tempt some European consumers; at the Intel Developer Forum in September, I noticed more than one member of the British press sneaking over to the San Francisco Apple store to acquire an iPhone, presumably with plans to unlock it for the carrier of their choice."

Hopefully, later this month, France will be the third European destination for the iPhone, and Apple and Orange, the wireless carrier selected for France, might have to make a concession to the forces of unlocking. Apparently, it's against French law to sell mobile phones locked to a specific network, though Apple has not confirmed whether its French iPhone will be locked.

O2 Xda Atom Life CNET Asia rating: 8 out of 10

O2 Xda Atom Life CNET Asia rating: 8 out of 10

The good: Stylish design; 1GB flash memory; faster processor compared with the Atom Exec; plentiful connectivity features including 3G and HSDPA; proprietary software that enhances user experience.

The bad: Fingerprint magnet; sub-par audio quality; difficult to feel buttons on the sides; narrow viewing angle on LCD.
The bottom line: The Xda Atom Life is one of the most full-featured handhelds we've come across, but it does come with a premium price tag.

Ministers of science and technology from some 60 countries discussed technology priorities

Ministers of science and technology from some 60 countries discussed identifying priorities in the formation of policy decisions that could guide and inspire Unesco's actions in the field.

During the meeting, the so-called technology divide was raised by the science minister from India and many countries agreed to reduce the divide.

"In the past we talked about the gap between rich and poor countries in terms of income, but now it's time to be concerned about the divide of haves and have-nots in terms of technology," Science Minister Yongyuth Yuthavong said after the meeting.
Apart from the technology divide, Thailand's science minister also raised in the meeting emerging issues of concern to science and technology development.

He said that to develop science and technology in a new era, it's necessary to consider supporting not only the masses but also ageing people who were now becoming a larger group in society. Meanwhile, the development of new energy sources as well as tackling environmental and global warming problems were also major concerns which could be solved by science and technology.

Is FaceBook worth $15 Billion? Facebook user view!

bdp-Review

News.com's Ina Fried in her Beyond Binary blog reported earlier Wednesday that Microsoft had beaten out Google in the high-stakes bidding war for the slice of tasty Facebook cake.

Although, Facebook said "We were very fortunate to have a lot of folks that were interested in partnering with us around advertising," Van Natta said. "We've been working with Microsoft for over a year now in the U.S., and it's been a partnership that's been really great for both of us.", some of facebook user have different view on a partnership of MS and Facebook.

One comment says "F*** THAT! I just deleted my FaceBook profile: reader comment from MyRightEye
Posted on: October 24, 2007, 1:47 PM PDT" " No way my MS is having anything to do with me and my friends nor my personal data. "..

What's Google react?

Speaking to journalists near the end of Google's Analyst Day, Google CEO Eric Schmidt said that "it's not appropriate for us to comment without taking a look." He added that Google is "very happy to work with Facebook and anyone else," but when asked if his company had been in talks to acquire the stake, Schmidt said that he "would rather not talk specifically."

Hope MS will own strong market in social network but what will be user view of FaceBook... ?

Microsoft buys into 15 billion dollar Facebook

San Francisco (dpa) - Microsoft beat off a rival bid from Google to invest 240 million in hit social networking site Facebook, in a deal that values the startup at 15 billion dollars, the companies announced Wednesday.

Microsoft's 240-million-dollar payment gives it just a 1.6-per- cent stake in the Silicon Valley start-up founded three years ago by Mark Zuckerberg, 23. He dropped out of Harvard to develop the company and his 20-per-cent stake now makes him worth a cool 3 billion dollars.

As part of the deal, Microsoft will expand its existing pact with the company to sell ads in the US and internationally. Industry analysts said Microsoft was willing to pay a stiff premium to forge the alliance and keep rival Google from making a similar deal with the popular site.
"Making this investment and expanding this partnership will position Microsoft and Facebook to better take advantage of advertising opportunities around the world," said Kevin Johnson, president of the platforms and services division at Microsoft.

Facebook currently has 42 million members and predicts that it will have 60 million members by the year's end. It is catching up fast to its main rival MySpace and is believed to be more attractive to advertisers because its structure makes people use their real identities, unlike MySpace where members often use false identities.
